Title: Bird I.D.
Post by: Fishtales on October 23, 2010, 10:38:51 PM
Taken in Calderglen Country Park in August. It was taken at the same time as some Coal Tit pictures. The more I look at it though the more it looks like a Pied Flycatcher.

So, which is it?

I've never come across a pied flycatcher before, but I've seen plenty of coal tits and that for my money that ain't one of them.  There doesn't seem to be a black bib for starters. Pied flycatcher's my guess.

The white on the back of the head shouldn't be there though. It is on the Coal Tit.

Thanks Malcolm I thought it might be. The dark colour and blue legs, which could just be from the lens, had me thinking when comparing it with the Coal Tit pictures.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Yup, you're right Fishy hadn't noticed that! So a young coal tit lacks the black bib then, or is it just not visible in the pic?
