Thanks Alex,

Now I know my bad casting is really a well developed real cast!!

I never seem to be able to overpower enough to get a left kick on a right handed cast

Must practice more.

George

It I understand correctly, you could try stopping the rod really abruptly George and your fly should kick round the corner.

These presentation casts are useful casts to practice when you are just fishing the water blind and once you have your act together, come in handy for when you are casting to a rising fish.

On sexyloops it looks like they just call it a curve cast... http://www.sexyloops.com/flycasting/tcurved.shtml

For longer distances or when you can't sidecast there is another way to curve it, but I can't find a description of it at the moment.

Basically you just do a high quick reach mend, returning your rod so that it is pointing at the target. A curve will travel down the line and you just drop the rod tip when the curve is where you want it.

Sounds complicated but it isn't. I'll try to find a video of it.

Couldn't find a video, but here is some more on the travelling curve cast

Joe Humphries called that a hook cast I think.

Hows the coaching going Alex?

OK I think Peter, but I could do with a willing victim to practice my spiel on....

Now let me see...who will I be seeing a lot of in the next few weeks in NZ? :8)
