Hi guys
I'm sure i've seen this posted before, but I am having problems with a couple of bobbin holders where the thread keeps breaking. My ceramic lined ones are no problem.
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to solve the problem (it could be a rough edge on the flared tip).

I got a cheapo (?4 I think) from GAC a few months ago that breaks thread just when you need it not to. It'll have an imperfection somewhere I expect, but it's impossible to see. My other cheapo I bought years ago is fine though, so it's the luck of the draw. Of course if I was more careful with receipts I have taken it back and tried another... then another... until I found one that works. So my advice for what it's worth is buy a cheapo but keep yer receipt.
Simple solution......chuck the buggers in the bin and use the ceramics!!! You've only one hand so how many do you need??

I had a similiar problem and tried everything to solve it without any success. Only real solution is chuck them out. Pay for a decent ceramic one as they last ages and are great for wire as well.
When I first started tying some forty years ago I used a spring clothes peg clipped to the thread, no bobbin holder. I use a metal bobbin holder now that I have had for thirty odd years and it doesn't break thread, I don't use it for wire or tinsel though, I use the hackle pliers to wind that on.
