I don't know where you are based so i dont know how handy this may be. As during the course of my work I regularaly pass a wee bungalow at Luggiebank near Cumbernauld which appears to be the HQ of a business which hires camper vans. It's called Extreme bongo campervan hire. What a  silly name but mght be worth checking out. I have no idea of costs etc.  I seem to remember the advertising sign at the gate has a web address which I will note the next time I pass.

I think it's wee vans they do CC. The Bongo name coming from Mazda Bongo conversions.

Kindof like a 2 man tent on wheels. Ideal if you're best of friends with your fishing pal meethinks  :gay4.

I work with an ardent walker who has a Bongo and loves the freedom it gives him. Another collegue went a weekend with him and slept up in the eaves - felt sea-sick all night as the van was being blown by the wind.

There are several places that rent them, just try yell.com.

There is a big place in Anstruther and another in Dairsie if you are in Fife. Bothe have a variety of vans.

Take the car/train to Inverness and pick up here.

That way you are only paying for the milea and days you use.

Bloody hell, at ?100 to ?140  / day for a cramped midgie infested van I think I'd be sticking to  B+B, cottage hire or even hotels

This looks like the company Clan Chief was talking about.

http://www.extremebongo.co.uk/

It says it is under new management and between Glasgow and Prestwick Airports though :)

This map puts it in Luggiebank :)

There is a list of hirers here.

There is also one on Clydeside just after you come off the M74 at the Larkhall turnoff, first nursery on the left.

Brown's Motorcaravans on the banks of the Clyde near Garrion Bridge look not too shabby, they probably won't come cheap either.

The rates on this site seem quite reasonable and slightly cheaper than other places.

We actually looked at buying one a couple of years ago from here http://www.perthshire-caravans.com/ (http://www.perthshire-caravans.com/). It seems extortionate to buy one of these things but it's not really. A lot of folk who are loaded buy one new then decide they want a different layout so trade it in. You can then buy one nearly new with about six grand off the price. Keep it for a couple of years and sell it on. If you purchase wisely they have a very good resale value.

I hired one from Deeside motorhomes last year and got the full deposit back after a week with four teenagers, not bad really but not on your route I guess.
There not as convenient as you think, if your at a campsite and the fishy water is more than a short walk away, you cant just sneak off for an early morning cast, well you can but people fall out of their beds and stuff goes everywhere- been there done that!! :D

We hired one last July from a guy in Slammanan.
He had two vans a two berth and a four berth. We took the two berth which was less than a year old and you would pay ?800 a week plus deposit for any damages.
I did not expect my wife to enjoy it as she is not the outdoor type but she mentioned the other week that she would not mind doing it again. Result!
If you would like contact details Steve I will forward them on but we used him as we were local. I did a report last year of our West coast jaunt.

I've only ever seen one of these in the UK, but a lot of Canadian anglers use them. You just park up, drop two supporting legs at the front and drive you 4x4 out from underneath and go fishing. http://www.bigfootrv.com/bigfootrv_whats_new.html

You could always just bid for one on fleabay and rent it to your pals to cover the cost.

A bit late but maybe handy for those in the central belt.  May try them out myself at start of sep. Doesnt seem too bad if you split the 5berth between 3 of you.
