Title: Photoshop FREE!
Post by: Traditionalist on January 08, 2013, 07:16:40 AM
This is a free full and legal version of Photoshop.  It is an older version but still excellent, and cost more than a 1000 dollars originally.  You can also get some other stuff there as well;

http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html)

make sure you copy the relevant serial number and keep it in a safe place.

Nobody quite knows why Adobe have put this software up for free, but it is supposed that because they have discontinued support for these versions that they have given the downloads so that people who have bought the software originally may still get it with a valid serial number. Or it may be an administrative error.

However this may be, get it as soon as you can! Occasionally the server is overloaded so you may have to try a couple of times.

Just a lucky coincidence that I found it Fred, I was repairing a machine for an old customer and had to find a way to get his old installations set up again.

It certainly is a massive money saver!   Even though these are older versions they work perfectly, and were all "Industry Standards" when released, so still perfectly good for most things.  Have a look at the other stuff as well, all very useful.

Yes, I saw that. Whatever the reason, this is now going viral on the web, so the servers may be a little slow or occasionally unavailable.  This is really excellent software and most people don't need the "cutting edge" stuff anyway.

Well Adobe seems to be backpedalling somewhat on this, but it is too late for that now. The direct link I gave still works although they have taken some other pages down.

On the forum they are now saying this is not legal but they would have a very hard time preventing anybody from using it now.  They provided the downloads and the "magic" serial numbers, so they are going to have to live with it.  No idea how this will eventually turn out, but the software works.

See this post;

Hmm, already deleted!  Adobe is trying damage control it seems.  Too late though, whatever they intended they have distributed this software for free with a valid serial number and NO CONDITIONS. So it is legal to use it. There is nothing they can do about that now.

Some are saying it wont work on newer systems. This is rubbish, it runs on Win 7 and on Win 8 with no problems, although I understand some MAC users can't run it

That is a direct link to their main server.  The download no longer works through other links.

The software runs fine on both WIN7 and WIN 8, I have tested both. Whatever, if you want this stuff then get it while you can.

You do not need to register and you do not need an ADOBE ID.

Yes, all the downloads there work, including the ACROBAT PRO  and the PREMIERE PRO.

I don't use any ADOBE software much as I run my machines on Linux, but the software is excellent. Even though the versions are not the newest they will be more than sufficient for most home users.

Link is still working fine;

http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html)

so maybe they have decided to run with it as PR.

Thanks for the link Mike.  Downloaded CS which seems to be running fine on my Windows 7 laptop.

My pleasure.  It has run on every machine we have tried up to now. Probably far more than sufficient for the majority of home users who want to use this type of software. The main difficulty, as with all software of this type,  is learning how to use it.

Agreed!  I haven't used it much since the mid nineties, but even then just used it for basic graphics desktop publishing projects and photo editing.  Loads to learn.  I'm glad to have it available to me again.  :)

Downloading as much as I can, but it took two hours to get Photoshop! (which is running nicely).
Thanks for the heads-up Mike.
Though it will be years before I work out how to use it!

These are for CS2. This is very good indeed, if you work through it you will be able to use the software very well indeed;

Some things there will not work as they rely on functions from CS6 etc.  The first link I posted is best for beginners to start with and it is based on CS2;

http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshoptutorialsbasic/Photoshop_Basics_Tutorials_for_Photoshop_Beginners.htm (http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshoptutorialsbasic/Photoshop_Basics_Tutorials_for_Photoshop_Beginners.htm)

shows you how to get around the toolbox etc for instance;

http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/ig/The-Photoshop-CS2-Workspace/Toolbox.htm (http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/ig/The-Photoshop-CS2-Workspace/Toolbox.htm)
an example page;

(http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/4448/selection011.png) (http://img547.imageshack.us/i/selection011.png/)

it is best not to bury yourself in stuff to begin with. The same applies to the add-ons.  These can do a massive number of things, but it is best to just choose the ones you are going to use!  There is no point in filling up with a lot of stuff you are never going to need.

The basic functions can be learned in few hours at most, some advanced stuff takes a very long time to learn and you will basically always need instructions for some things.

Well, yes, I could but it would take a very long time and wouldn't do much good anyway!  You have to learn the basic functions by using the software.

I don't have the time to do it anyway, I have my new cable connection that is quite fast, but uploading all this stuff still takes a lot of work and time.

I don't know whether you can get cable there ( in the UK );

but these are my current speeds;

(http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/9581/selection012d.png) (http://img189.imageshack.us/i/selection012d.png/)

I could up this to 100 Mbps  no problem
http://www.kabeldeutschland.de/internet-telefon/flatrate-tarife/ (http://www.kabeldeutschland.de/internet-telefon/flatrate-tarife/)
but there is no point. It is fast enough for what I want.

Of course, some things wont work well at lower speeds.

Wee suggestion.
This may not last forever, so I have saved the downloads rather then run them, and noted the registration keys.
Figure the rest for yourself!

Indeed, I would suggest you burn the downloads to a disc, along with a text file of the serial numbers, so that you have an "original" backup.

an image of the numbers works as well;

More and more people are asking about this, so here is the main tip for using software like this.  You really need a dual monitor setup. If you have a laptop you can usually connect a second monitor to it. If you have a desktop then you need a video/graphics card that supports two monitors. Both Windows and most Linux distributions will support multiple monitor setups.

You can have your working area on one screen and a manual or other help file from a browser or whatever on your other screen.  This will allow you to learn things a lot faster and also give you a much larger working area.

This is such a setup using the GIMP with a manual and the toolboxes on the second screen;

(http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/5342/workspace1015.png) (http://img594.imageshack.us/i/workspace1015.png/)

as I work a lot with some pretty complex stuff and quite a bit of graphics software my main screen has a very high resolution. In this case a DELL IPS  (In-Plane Switching technology)30 inch  panel running at a resolution of 2560*1600 pixels.  The second screen in this case is  A 26 inch Samsung syncmaster running at 1920*1200 pixels.

The resulting screenshot image of the full desktop in this case is of course very large, and I have reduced it considerably in size to show it here.

However, even if you use normal sized monitors it is a lot easier to work with two than it is with one.
