Also seen that one the day, shame he couldn't land any of the bigger ones, but a chalk stream in minature in almost a ditch...

I feel like he shouldn't be getting broken off that often, one or two of those fish ran and he couldn't react with the Tenkara rod, would love to have a go with conventional gear.

Exactly what I thought Sean. Try using a proper bloody rod.  ;)   This confirmed every suspicion I had about Tenkara.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking it and  still intend to give it a try, but it is a method for reliably catching bandies.  ;)

Exactly that Fred, it was designed for Japanese mountain streams with tiny char, ayu and chub etc.
Not fair leaving a hook in every big fish on the creek!
