QuoteDerek and Steve had the unusual idea of putting big wooly type socks over their boots

That could be a really useful tip to remember.

I've changed felt soles before and it is not easy to get the old ones off. It is easy to get the new ones on though.

Re the efficiency of the various soles...

I have boots with studded felts, commando type, unstudded and studded Aquastealth.

I find studded Aquastealth works just as well as studded felt. I found unstudded Aquastealth is dodgy on algae-coated rocks, but OK on most other surfaces.

I think the only cheap pair of boots I've bought were Snowbees and I must say they lasted well. I'm sold (or maybe soled :crap) on tungsten studded Simms Guide these days. Cost me a packet, but they are still going after three seasons of very hard use.

Tomcatin never ever tried the felt soles ....how easy to replace

cheers

A COMPLETE BITCH!!!! :beg

Take the new felts to a shoe repair store and have the guy/gal do the job. Simple instructions or no, I've yet to see (or experience) a satisfactory 'self done' job. :violin

Trust me on this one, trust me!
