I changed to a 6 weight 9 footer reasoning that it would be less tiring to fish with and need less effort especially for a full day on the loch.  Now I?m getting  pains down my right side in the area of my ribs (right handed caster).

Today I went back to the 10 foot 7 weight.  No pains but my arm was tired at the end of the day.  This is why I changed.

I?m not straining to cast long distances ? 10 to 15 yards is fine.  With the bigger rod one false cast is all I need but the smaller rod needs two or three.

Any suggestions?

Don't laugh, I've been doing them and they work. Two 2 Litre milk bottles filled with water do the trick if you don't have a set :)

Carried it in full, then carry it out empty.

My bet is it is down to casting technique Bob. I know it is a bit late in the day to start changing your casting, but it shouldn't take three false casts to cast 10 or 15 yards.

Protect the edge.

Agree with Alex here. If anything I would expect the 9ft, 6 weight to cast further and more easily than the longer rod.

Quote9 footer with 6 weight line  - maybe 20-25 yards maximum with a lot of false casting.

Then I noticed.  Not a 6 weight line but a 3 weight that I use with a 7 footer.  I had picked up the wrong spool for the Leeda LC.  Both lines are the same colour.

:roflmao :roflmao Now i have sore ribs

Is 10-15 yards of #3 line chucked on a #6 rod not some kind of distance casting record?
I used to be a surrealist but now I'm just fish.
