Yet another sbs to compliment the Dubbing Techniques (http://www.wildfisher.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=11416.0) article. I first saw this technique in a flytying publication a couple of years ago and I was quite struck by the effect achieved using a traditional and a modern material in a dubbing loop, I hope you are too. Quite apart from the effect, a secondary aspect of this technique is the improved durability to the peacock herl body of the finished fly.
Instructions assume right-handed tyers.
HOOK ? Kamasan B175 #12
THREAD ? Black Benecchi 8/0
BODY ? Three Peacock Herls and Peacock Orvis Spectrablend in a Dubbing Loop.
HACKLE ? Black Hen.
STEP 1
Attach the thread and wrap to the mid point of the hook shank.

Then form a dubbing loop, trapping it down as you wrap the thread to the rear of the hook.

STEP 2
Tie in the three peacock herls.

Then twist the herls round one leg of the loop.

Insert a dubbing noodle in the loop and close it.

Then grip the loop above the dubbing whorl, making sure the herls are kept under a firm downwards tension, being careful not to break them.

Then spin the whorl to form the dubbing rope.

Finally, wrap and tie off to form the body.

STEP 3
Tie in the hackle.
Then wrap and tie off.

Finally, form a neat head, whipfinish and varnish. Then give the body a rub with Velcro for the completed fly.
