Title: Jaffacake Wet Fly
Post by: NaturallySelected on September 04, 2018, 10:15:53 PM
I was reading autumns T&S and noticed a very nice trout caught on Loch Heilan on a Jaffacake Wet Fly. I have never heard of it and wondered if anyone in this forum knows the pattern?

Cheers

I don't know the pattern but I think that was supposed to be my fish from June.

I'll need to check the photo to see if it has my fly in its scissors  :D

I'd also be interested to know the recipe if it is one of your flies. Although my tying never goes much past nymphs and dry flies so it'll probably look a shambles, but with all the hill loch fishing I have planned next season I'd better get practicing tying some wet flies.

Not one I have heard of if indeed a fly will be a  pattern that some local tied & gave it a daft name may well be a real Jaffa Cake as I hear that some locals are not adverse to using a Blackbird Fancy Fly on this loch or a wee spin early season before it weeds up.

He actually looks a lot younger than me.

And now that I think of it I think the fish I lost was much bigger than that one.
It seems to get bigger every time I think about it. :makefun

Another one bites the dust! It must be sustainable alan or I suppose there'd be none left by now. This is the only reference I can find to a fly with Jaffa (other than a blob  ) not sure this is the fly in question though

Andy nothing to do about sustainability. It is just the mindset of  anglers from certain areas that just kill everything with no regard to anything other than that, just galls me. I have nothing against someone who kills a few for the pot but those that just chap everything takeable I have no time for. I did it when I was younger but I think I have moved on well I hope I have.
Sorry guys for hi jacking the post just something dear to my heart so I will say no more on the subject
