Title: Good Flies - John Gierach
Post by: Wildfisher on December 22, 2007, 10:40:49 PM
I bought this book about 5 or 6 years ago to give me something to read during a short stay in hospital. I read a bit of it then but soon got fed up and put it down.

Picked it up again last week and had another go.

I would say this about it.  John Gierach fans will probably like it – the first few chapters before he gets onto the specific patterns  anyway. The writing style is typical  Gierach – laid back -  not quite good ol' boy stuff but readers of his other work will know what  I mean. Pleasant reading.

Once  passed the generalised first few chapters I found it hard going. In my opinion John Gierach's style does not lend itself to this kind of book, he's a story teller.

Have to say that I think this book is no more than  Gierach  "turning the handle" to print  a few dollars. He has done  better. I wouldn't buy it.
