For those who may be interested / don't get the magazines - Trout and Salmon Magazine this month shows a link to view the 1st Issue of the magazine (from July 1955) online.
I found it a very interesting read. Low water levels, women moaning about limited choice in fishing clothing... nothing changes then!

Although of course some of the members of the forum from a different generation will have seen the original and still have it in their loft

I'm sure that's the one they gave a copy away of when they did a 30 years anniversary edition or something. Might just have it somewhere.

If only the magazines these days were more based on fishing rather than adverts I'd buy them more. I know it's a revenue thing but get fed up buying mags that are 50% adverts and as a result rarely do these days.  :(

It's a PROFIT thing -

Nothing wrong with that surely?  Profit = viability = jobs for the downtrodden worker?

Would you rather  there was no profit and no jobs?

As long as no one is being exploited and the environment is considered profit is not a bad thing; in fact it is essential as anyone who runs any kind of business will tell you.

Rather than profit I think it is more a cost thing. The more advertisers the lower the cost of the magazine. To make the profit on the magazine, and keep it viable, without making it too expensive they would need other income.

When I first read the thread I wondered how much it would cost to produce a magazine and how much you would have to charge for it just to break even.
Don't worry, be happy.

Carried it in full, then carry it out empty.
