Been tying up a few shrimps and thought I'd do some step by steps showing three different ways of tying them. First up is a subtle little number with a hint of pink!
Instructions assume right-handed tyers
HOOK ? Tiemco 2487 #14
WEIGHT ? Flat Lead Foil
THREAD ? Orange Roman Moser Power Silk
RIB ? Fine Gold Wire
BACK ? Red Magic Shrimp Foil
BODY ? Bighorn Pink Sow Scud Dubbing
STEP 1
Mount the hook in the vice. Lay one strip of lead foil on the shank and criss cross some thread wraps over it.

Repeat several times, each one a little shorter than the previous to build up a hump shape.

The final one I put on is the same length as the first. I think it gives a better finish.

STEP 2
Tie in the rib on the far side of the hook.

STEP 3
Tie in the back material on top of the hook. Take the thread back to the head.

STEP 4
Split the thread and insert a loose noodle of dubbing. Then spin it to form a dubbing rope.

Then wrap to the tail and back to the head to form the body.

STEP 5
Pull the back material over the back and tie down securely at the head.

STEP 6
Follow with rib.

STEP 7
Whipfinish and detach thread. Then give the body a good going over with Velcro, always sweeping down. Finally trim the dubbing to length for the legs then varnish the head for the completed fly.
