It reminds me of the old style Clyde salmon flies.

I remember seeing a frame of flies in Robertsons of Glasgow many years ago.The ratio of body to hook was exactly the same.

An old lady down our street we used to help out, now deceased, kindly gave me a wee box of her husband's flies for salmon and sea trout and one of them is very like the M and C you have tied here.
Obviously a long standing fish catcher pattern in those proportions. :) :)
