So I signed up for a swap on another board, go on holiday, then when I come back I key in on the ?less is more? part of the swap details and an idea comes to mind. Of course, after I tie the flies I read the instructions properly... Doh! So what follows is my original, inappropriate, idea for my swap fly. I have done this sbs so that you can see that, despite all our tails of expensive materials, flytying doesn?t necessarily have to be an expensive hobby. All you need is a hook, silk and one single feather.
Why WNWN? Simple really... Waste Not Want Not.

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK ? Drennan Traditional Wet Fly #14
SILK ? Black Pearsall?s (waxed)
RIB ? Tag end of the Tying Silk
HACKLE ? Partridge
TAIL ? Partridge Hackle Fibres
BODY ? The downy waste from the base of a partridge hackle, dubbed.

STEP 1
Attach the thread and make two turns of silk. Don?t cut the tag of thread off, it will be used to rib the fly.

STEP 2
Take one partridge feather and prepare it for tying in by removing the downy feather and any excess fibres from the base.

Keep the excess fibres for the tail.

And the downy waste for the body.

STEP 3
Tie the hackle in on top of the shank with the concave side uppermost

STEP 4
Tie in the excess fibres you kept for the tail.

STEP 5
Use the downy waste to dub the thread.

Then wrap to form the body.

STEP 6
Follow with the rib.

STEP 7
Wrap the hackle and tie off.

STEP 8
Finally, whipfinish and detach the thread for the completed fly.

Use a dyed feather for variation. In this case a yellow dyed partridge hackle.
