Since the last week in May I've had three encounters with otters. With a fair distance between sightings at first i thought they were individuals but a quick check shows they can travel up to 25 miles at night so who knows ?

Thursday nights meeting ended my fishing and was the closest I've came to one. As usual the first thought was "goodness gracious, that was an almighty rise" or words to that effect. Then i saw the head.

It swam downstream towards me and, as i made like a statue, came inside rod distance speaking a few words in otter before climbing onto a boulder just below me in mid stream. I scrambled for the camera as the profile on the boulder was perfectly silhouetted, but it was far too busy and was gone.

Fantastic creatures beautifully suited to the environment, nature at its best.

A huge plus is they displace mink as well.

There are at least three pairs here, roughly two miles apart along the glen.
The good news is that you can watch one pair from the hotel bar......
'til a voice as bad as conscience,
rang interminable changes,
on an everlasting whisper,
day and night repeated so-
"Something hidden, go and find it,
Go and look beyond the ranges,
Something lost beyond the ranges,
Lost and waiting for you,
Go."
