I've never seen a sedge as black as this one.  No hint of any other colour, other than legs and antennae.

That's backest black sedge I've ever seen Smurf.

Blacker than the blackest black pudding.

Even white bits are black

The Trichoptera Negra Negra sedges in NZ are much blacker than that :)

About the size of a very big crow. They have been known to carry off young lambs :)

Aye, well that makes sense. The troot there enjoy a good mouthful.  :D

As black as priests socks? - nothing blacker than that according to Father Ted :)

whinging pom

can I announce my return by being an utter bore and stateing that it is Mystacides azurea.
though it could be 'Mystacides nigra' which is a touch more unusual i believe. ( Black Silverhorns).

Whats the difference? ( he asks as if anyone of you cares)
The M. Nigra is a more matt black colour compared with the oily blue black colour of azurea.

As they 'dance' low over the surface and rarely end up in the drink, the trout dont seem to give too hoots about them or patterns that imitate it. Though some of our nutty smaller trout seem to jump out of the water to snatch em out of the air or crash them down, but I have never seen them come back round to mop up the debris.
