Some may have read in the reports section that I broke the tip section of a rod at the weekend. Was concerned that getting it repaired could take a while. Just got off the phone to Hardy Customer service, I was asked which section was broken and which rod it was from then asked if I wanted to pay over the phone so they could send out the replacement tip section.

I was not asked for serial number of the rod or any proof of warranty or  purchase. despite the website stating the £50 handling, administration and return postage and packing charge (per claim). The customer service department don't make any bones about fact that you are effectively buying the section.

This has given me an idea, can I have four volunteers to each contact Hardy Customer services and order a different section of a Zephrus 10ft 3wt rod?  :worms :crap

Fish about? but a pyramid scheme may be more attractive long term, for the early buy ins anyway.

Think it is about time this warranty nonsense should be kicked into touch by the manufacturers. The sale of goods act should be all that is required anything else you pay for.

I believe if you phone up and state that you have snapped a section of a Platinum X rod that they will immediately offer you discount of 50% on any new rod.  Just saying like.....

Received the replacement tip section in the post today. To be fair that pretty good service, prompt and hassle free. Replace, met section has slightly smaller tip rig, black and wrapping is slightly different shape but given age of the original rod these things are to be expected.

Funny the mention of a Platinum X breakage. I broke one outside the angling shop in Stirling years before they moved out to the market site. Luckily one of the staff was with me when I was giving it a cast and after one minute it snapped in the next section up from the butt. He did not bat any eye .... "we get that from time to time"   !!!

Not the attitude you'd expect and scary indictation of the quality of the rods!

Aye, that was a Greys rod and I broke another Greys one on the grass round the corner from the shop that was in Portobello that shut recently. Someone with me out the shop both times, neither of them bothered at all. I still have two other Greys ones, the five piece Missionary, and they have always been OK, a 10'3" 4/5 and a 10'3" 6/7 both handy for a boat because the tube is smaller.
