Title: The Deergravy Fly Drier
Post by: Wildfisher on June 08, 2012, 01:49:13 PM
I pinched this idea from Dave at the last forum outing. Simple, very clever, secure, no cost, works. Far better than these useless  fleece patches or the expensive magnetic drier I bought last year.

All you need is an old 35mm film cannister, a bit of chord (I used thin bungee) and  drill.

Great stuff Dave, you and your dad are certainly innovative anglers.  :D

The pictures will explain it. I just drilled random holes, you could make it fancy if you chose to.

"35mm Film Cannister"?
8 track in your Capri?
Betamax VCR?
Commodore 64?
The bespoke, hand turned, magic wood, lined with amadou, version will be available for sale to discerning (i.e. filthy rich) Forumites within days.
Thank you for sharing!

"35mm Film Cannister"?

I see you have identified the obvious weakness in this.

Where do you  get one of those in this digital age?

Well, from me of course, I  have 1000's of them

£24.99 each +VAT + Post and Packing.

not sure about the black canister

It's an improvement on the original clear design.

The black surface draws heat from the sun and sets up convection currents of air within the cannister.  The warm air escapes through the upper holes, fresh, cooler air is drawn  in through the lower holes. This  dries the fly far quicker and also grooms the feather barbs  or (deer hair in Dave's case) into the optimum pre-ginking position. Works particularity well with CDC flies.

This research and development was, of course,  carried out in Aberdeenshire

There we go, at last, positive proof that these Fly Drier Design Optimisers  talk pish.

Damn, I was hoping you would not have spotted that rather obvious flaw.   You Embra blokes are  just too smart. Up here in Aberdeenshire, on the other hand,  it seems people will believe anything.

NO NO NO, it has to be real tree I tell you!!! Fish can't see you if you are wearing real tree, even if you are fishing a water that has no trees, bushes or shrubs surrounding it.  With real tree you can blend perfectly into any surrounding. They have to be real tree so they can match the colour of the water and the weeds and the boat and the fishin hut, if you make them black they will surely stand out  :crap
