Is your  broadband modem OK?, also if you are on the limit of distance from the exchange ( about 8KM)  you might get intermittent problems the line dropping. Can you connect it again no problem or do you have to wait? If so how do you do it?

Are you using XP's firewall and another at the same time? If yes then turn off the XP one sometimes you can get conflicts between the two. If you are only using XP's then get another one :) I had trouble between XP's and Norton's till I turned the XP one off. The XP one seems to block anything it doesn't like and keeps the computer blocked till it thinks everything is safe, which seems to be forever. This action can be caused by anything, it even blocked this site because of an image downloading it didn't like, and I mean one of the images to build the site not an extra one :)

HTH.
