The Deergravy Fly Drier

I pinched this idea from Dave at the last forum outing. Simple, very clever, secure, no cost, works. Far better than these useless  fleece patches or the expensive magnetic drier I bought last year.

All you need is an old 35mm film cannister, a bit of chord (I used thin bungee) and  drill.

Great stuff Dave, you and your dad are certainly innovative anglers. 

The pictures will explain it. I just drilled random holes, you could make it fancy if you chose to.

not sure about the black canister

It's an improvement on the original clear design.

The black surface draws heat from the sun and sets up convection currents of air within the cannister.  The warm air escapes through the upper holes, fresh, cooler air is drawn  in through the lower holes. This  dries the fly far quicker and also grooms the feather barbs  or (deer hair in Dave's case) into the optimum pre-ginking position. Works particularity well with CDC flies.

This research and development was, of course,  carried out in Aberdeenshire  :lol:
