Various mouse skins were used. For most things mole fur or other light underfur may be substituted. It is not that easy to skin a mouse! The fur is of course very fine and short.The fur colour depends on the type of mouse. This ranges from almost white to jet black, with every colour in between in wild mice. "Domesticated" ( pet) mice also come in a massive array of colours and markings.
Voles were also referred to as a "Water-mouse".
