I was in pets at home today
 Not a lot of fish but they did have some nice little bronze corys

I would have thought that sand a bit fine and would pack down and restrict root growth and block the gils of fish. I would go for a courser sand if you don't want gravel.

A decent shop (it's within Dobbies Garden Centre) but I was surprised at the price of the fish. Tiny Electric Blue Rams @ £20 each. Is that expensive or am I just out of touch?

We have but it is where I bought two Angel fish that had White Saddle Back Disease that nearly wiped out my Tank. I use Pets at Home which have been OK. I see you have one in Arbroath might be worth a look. These places are only as good as the staff though.

On facebook Fred( the wife uses it to keep in touch with the grandkids) appeared today.

Silver sand. Yes you can use that too. I've used it a few times. But yes it will cloud the water for a day or two when you fill the tank. This isn't a real issue though. You'll have similar with most sands and most gravels too.

No permission required for individuals under the access legislation in nutjob Scotland, but if it is commercial that is different. That will really screw things up. Where is this being advertised?

I think once you add the cost of overnight shipping it may be more expensive.
