early season hill loch fishing

Have never been fishing with flies before may at the earliest, but am keen for it now.

What should I do differently to regular summer loch fishing?  Usually I fish 2 flies in a row, a mini muddler, then something small and black and not on the surface.  And it works pretty well for me.

Will be quite high up, surrounded by snow but hopefully lochs not iced up.
