Title: Upgrading two hander?
Post by: Tyro on July 17, 2016, 03:01:54 PM
Can anyone say if there is any real benefit in upgrading from a four year old Oracle XT to the newer Oracle Spey?
Also looking at changing my older AFS shooting head for the newer Outbound as I am fed up with the loop to loop connection jamming in the tip ring.

I can't answer the question on the rod other than if you like the one you have then why upgrade? Cut the loop to loop off and needle knot or splice the join.

You are right about the rod of course. Just a bad workman blaming his tools because I can't cast to the far bank! As for cutting out the loop to loop connection I have thought about it and got as far as having my scissors in hand but could not quite bring myself to cut the line!

If you are thinking of replacing the line anyway why worry :)

Could you redo the loop joint by stripping the small one back to the line core and making a new smaller loop and leave the big loop alone ??

I may end up trying that. I must say though that I bought the Outbound set up for my 13 footer and it is lovely having no joints or loops of any kind. Mind you the thought of spending £75 that I do not really need to will no doubt keep this Fifers cash in his pocket.
