It's best not to use shrink tubing on those loops. it will cause hinging and cracking.  There is no need for any other finish than the aquaseal.

I just strip the outer between my fingernails and then use a needle and waxed thread to sew and whip the tag end to form the loop, works fine, have used it for pike as well as trout without any problems  :)

Wild Fisher lines work ok with this method. http://globalflyfisher.com/fishbetter/loop4.htm (http://globalflyfisher.com/fishbetter/loop4.htm)
But tried another line & the inner braid was so tight the tag end wouldn't pull through the middle.Ended up using a Minicon as i never thought about using a needle and waxed thread to sew and whip the tag end to form the loop.Good tip for the future Ferg. Cheers :D

There are lines with very dense or solid cores which of course wont work with that method.  For a quick setup on the water I just strip the outer coating, ( a butane lighter will soften it), for a few inches, form a loop and tie a simple overhand knot in the loop.   It is best to treat this with some form of waterproof and flexible glue if you want to use it long term.  I have never had one fail.

Simple overhand;

If you are worried you can use a double overhand loop;
