Flashing rod

Just returned from a few days fishing in the bright sun with a friend who uses a Hardy Marksman. I could see his rod flashing in the sun from the other side of a fair sized loch and he said the same for my new Zenith. My RPL+ has more of a matt finish and does not flash in the same way. Has anyone tried a gentle application of wet and dry (or another solution) to eliminate this flashing?
I realise this would affect any resale value but I hang on to my tackle so that is not an issue.

I have had the very same thoughts for a few of my rods ... why oh why do so many have a gloss finish
Very interested to hear if anyone has tried a very fine abrasive and had a good result.
