Title: Jig Hooks
Post by: Wildfisher on August 05, 2014, 03:11:18 PM
What exactly is a jig hook? What makes it a jig hook?  I ask because I saw a video on Youtube of what seems to be an  effective nymph being tied on a JMC CP 50 BL  barbless "jig hook". Do they hold better?

i dont think they hold any bettet but when your trying to fish near the bottom for grayling they dont snag as much because they fish upside down.

I've done well for grayling with them.

Think it's the up turned eye that makes the difference. They are designed for vertical jigging and fish barb up which gives them a bit of protection from weed and snags. A lot of people fishing 'lrf ' style are using tadpoles / damsels / dog nobbler type lures tied on these hooks to drop shot from boats piers and rocks. I suppose they might be good for leaded caddis and nymph patterns and would maybe a good hook to anchor the cast when going deep for grayling?
