Title: Kamasan B400/401 v. B170s
Post by: Tim on June 06, 2009, 09:05:09 AM
Not that I catch many big fish but...did hook into some decent fish in May on CDC and Elks and F-Flies tied on Kamasan B401 16s and 14s which had a tendency to straighten. One day early May I lost a series of 2 - 4lb fish as they hit and ran and I tried to slow them before they got to cover. Even fishing with a 2.5lb point it was the hook that straightened before the string broke.

I was thinking about getting some B170s as they look a bit stronger. Are they? Or any other suggestions for little(ish) flies for big(ish) fish?

Tim,

You are right, the B170 is medium wire and the B401 is light wire.

I use a variety of hooks, the B170 among them. I stay clear of very light wire hooks.
