I'm thinking about upgrading to a proper Tilly hat. No local suppliers here, so it will have to be an online order. Anyone know how to measure your head correctly to get the right size?
I have above average cranial capacity
Google's your friend :)

Apparently with a properly fitted Tilly hat you should be able to fit two fingers between the hat and your forehead.
Let's give that a try ...............

Perfect!
I've got an Akubra bunnet, proven fish catcher £99 to you Fred...................

These hats are very popular State Side though a Canadian company. Many fly fishers sing their praises. Not tried one though but why not. They are supposed to be very comfortable.
Try here, not cheap so maybe shop around.

My wife got a Tilly in Vancouver a few years ago. Still the best hat I have tried in the sun.
I got a leather hand stitched job a few years ago at the game fair. Wee woman about 70 tried it on my head, said it needed stretched a bit and grabbed it in both hands and pulled. perfect ever since.
A bit hot in the heat of the day but waterproof which i find more useful in Scotland.

In Stronian last week the midges were up with the worst I have encountered and it was still May.
You could always try one of these

I eventually bought one of these Tilley hats after taking a stab at the correct size I'd need. It fitted perfectly and the hat is a great bit of kit. Comfy, stable, protects your neck and ears from the sun. Unlike wearing a baseball cap you don't end up looking like a complete dickhead. There are few sadder sights than a middle aged, elderly or overweight person with sagging beer belly and grey hair wearing a baseball cap.
Not cheap, but far better than the less expensive Snowbee ranger hat it replaces.
Fred only just come back after computer crashed and died used phone on tapa talk then you stopped it replaced laptop so now getting my fishing fix
Ive had a tilly winter hat for several years with hidden ear flaps and brow peak under brim in cold weather it beats anything bit warm for summer but at some stage will get vented summer version
