CDC and Elk and DHE and PTN (to name just three) have three things in common. They are signature tyings, they?re deadly and they?re easy to tie. Less well known I think, but a fly which ticks all the boxes is Jim Teeny?s ?Teeny Nymph?
This is a fly I rate more highly than the Sawyer?s P.T.N!
Many I?m sure will be aware of the ?Teeny? series of fly lines, but fewer will have heard of his signature fly. I read somewhere, a long time ago, that Jim Teeny fishes no other fly than the ?Teeny Nymph? (in all its guises?) for every species of fish caught on fly. Whether that is true or not I can?t say, but I have no reason to doubt it.
The sbs detailed below is how I tie the fly which differs only slightly from the way Jim Teeny ties it.
Instructions assume right-handed tyers
HOOK ? To suit the target species. Here I have used a TMC200R #14
THREAD ? Black
WEIGHT ? Self adhesive Lead Foil.
BODY/LEGS/THORAX ? Pheasant Tail Fibres.
STEP 1
Lay down one layer of foil for the body and two layers for the thorax.

STEP 2
Attach the thread and wrap to the end of the body.

STEP 3
Tie in three PT fibres and wrap the thread to the thorax. Then apply a dab of Superglue. In the original dressing the tips of the PT are used to form the first set of legs. I prefer to tie these in separately.

Then wrap the fibres to form the body.

STEP 4
Invert the hook and tie in five or six PT fibres for the first set of legs.

STEP 5
Tie in five or six PT fibres to form the thorax. This time I use the tips to form the second set of legs. Allow enough length in the tips so that when they are folded back the reach the hook point.

STEP 6
Wrap the fibres and tie off.

Fold the tips back and tie down to form the legs.

Finally, whipfinish and varnish for the completed fly.

These are just a few samples of the myriad of variations you can make by using different hook styles and colours of Pheasant Tail, or by adding Pheasant Tail fibre wings.

p.s. No offense ment but the article stated the key factor is the shape of the fly which differs slightly to your example, bet they are still killer tho ;)
