Hello all i have a pair of chest waders that have a fairly soft rubber type sole that doesn't retain studs for long.I have been thinking about buying some wading boot chains  http://www.fishingmegastore.com/stillwater-boot-chain~6148.html .I have never used boot chains before do they give good grip when wading & are they fairly durable.Cheers all

I wonder if these would do. I bought two sets, one for me and SWMBO, but the snow and ice went before we could try them out :)

You can also buy replacement stud sets.

They might even take the wader studs.
Don't worry, be happy.

No they don't take wader studs well the manufacturer uses car Tyre studs fitted by compressed air. To send them back would be a bit pricey with the studs & postage both ways.I am just wondering if anyone uses wading chains & find they give good grip & are fairly durable. Also found these ones very cheap.  http://bit.ly/eGi5s9

I have just had a look at the Icer's and the studs are removed with a large screwdriver or socket. The replacement packet of studs has a screwdriver bit that fits into an electric screwdriver or a screwdriver that takes bits, which I have, and looks pretty straight forward to do. The Icer's themselves are just Vibram soles with velcro straps at toe and ankle, like a pair of sandals, which are attached to the boot and held on by the straps. There is a picture on the blurb inside the pack showing an angler holding a steelhead kneeling on the ice at the side of a river with the Icer's on his wading boots.
Don't worry, be happy.

GAC Stillwater wading chains are excellent even on ice !

We were issued with something similar when I was in the post. Bloody lethal on black ice, steep snow covered paved drives and ceramic tiles on stairs, nobody used them :)

Hopefully they will work on the river. Don't fish for grayling so not worried about ice.In the winter just past i found an old pair of socks stretched over my shoes worked wonders in those treacherous conditions.

I've never used the RT ones, expect they would be good on grass, but the GAC ones have a different chain and good on ice.
