Hi,

As I am sure you are aware nearly all lifejacket manufacturers recommend an
annual service as best practice, especially in regard to the firing
mechanisms, Gas canisters and bobbins on automatic jackets. If it is of
benefit to members of the Forum I am willing to offer a 15% discount on the
stated charges on my website across the board.

As for the actual service, it includes a thorough check of the
webbing/straps, 24 hour inflation test, inspection of the automatic salt
cartridge, if appropriate, weighing and inspection of the C02 tank, testing
the firing pin, and washing the jacket with a mild detergent to get rid of
the worst of the mildew/grime. This is standard procedure for the vast
majority of brands. I would then email a report to you before proceeding
further.

The basic cost is £16 per jacket, less the proposed discount, and if the C02
or bobbin need replaced we can do this after consultation with you as that
cost depends on the type of jacket. Delivery and collection can be arranged
by Fedex courier if required but contact me first for details as the cost
varies considerably depending on your location.

The turnaround time for a service is usually about a week or so, but if you
are in a rush we would obviously try and get it done in a shorter time for
you.

If anyone needs any further information feel free to contact me at

your contact details in with the items as it saves a lot of hassle for
everyone.

Best regards,

Graeme.

Good stuff Graeme. Life jackets have always worried me. How does the angler test they are OK? Jumping over the side will certainly tell you if your jacket is working, but it seems a bit self defeating.

I'll be your first Wild Fishing Forum customer - I have 3 self inflating  jackets that have never been tested, one is mine, the other two belong to my sons.  I'll arrange to drop them off with your Dad next week if possible.

I'm sure other members will also use this service if,  like me, they have never had their jacket tested in years. It makes sense.

Hi Fred

That's a good question. The other (less wet) method of checking if your jackets mechanism is still in date is to check for an expiry date tag. This may be on the cover, harness or inside with the cylinder. Most are a year from production or replacement of the mechanism. I am happy to check and advise FOC for you or any forum member.

Most jackets require an annual service, and I am happy to book this for you and to advise/ remind annually by email, phone or text. We aim to keep an annual service as cheap as possible, but the customers safety is always our top priority, and as long as no replacements are required then the price will be £16. We can collect them from your home or work, and though this has a cost it is far easier and more convenient than making arrangements for you.

For a full service including Full Visual Inspection, Strapping/Webbing check, Manual Inflation Test, replacement of CO2, replacement of Bobbin, testing firing pin, replacing safety clip, Washing and complete reassembly of Jacket/Mechanism the maximum price a forum member would pay, taking their discount into account, would be £31.00 this includes parts and a wee report/certificate, of the work carried out. The cost of collection and delivery can vary slightly with distance as you can appreciate.

Hope this helps,

Graeme.
