Aye I'll give that a bash next season as well Dave (Corsican) I would definitely have gone with a longer leader so useful info. I'll need to look out a sinking line.....sure I've got one somewhere!

I'm not usually the Christmassy type but one of the other guys in work suggested it and it was a reason to get the stuff out, I've barely tied anything so far this winter, can't seem to get into the groove

bear in mind the various methods of streamer fishing are equally applicable to any species. I have caught carp, pollack & pike using buoyant flies on fast-sink lines. the action is remarkably similar to a slow-wobbled spoon or deadbait.
