Does a lens cover shutter need lubrication?

I've had a sticky lens cover shutter for a while.  It's a bit of a pain when I try to take a quick pic and the shutters haven't fully opened resulting in black sections.  Example below.

I eventually took the camera apart today, cleaned and reassembled the problematic area, and hey presto it was opening and shutting like new.
An hour later and it's sticking again.

I had similar issues with an older SLR, took it into the the shop and they told me the "gaskets" or something where old & sticky and needed to be replaced.  Work a treat after that.

What about rubbing it with a lead pencil or a little WD40 on a cloth run along the edges?
Don't worry, be happy.

Carried it in full, then carry it out empty.
