Found this today about 1000 feet up on Hecla, South Uist.
There was just the one plant, it looks like it belongs in a desert or on the coast (or a plant pot) rather than half way up a soggy hill.







I was also surprised by the number of primroses hiding away in sheltered hollows and stream beds.

Rhodiola rosea -  common name is  Roseroot.  Used to be Sedum rosea but they put it into another genus. Tends to be found mainly on calcareous rocks. Loads of it on Ben Lawers it's an alpine species.

Looks like Roseroot to me. Common succulent often found in gullies on richer volcanic soils. Loads on the east facing side of the Trotternish ridge on Skye.

This one must be a real tough example of the breed because it was clinging to a wind scoured gneiss outcrop with it's roots in peat.
