This is my preferred method of tying the Rhyacophila. This is a slightly abridged sbs see Rhyacophila (Furry Foam) for an alternative method and for additional information.
I have also tied this one on a different hook.

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK ? Partridge YK12ST #12
THREAD ? Black Benecchi 8/0
WEIGHT ? Self Adhesive Lead Foil (two layers at the thorax)
RIB ? 3 or 4lb Nylon
BACK ? Flexibody
BODY ? Master Class SLF #10 (Rhyacophila pupa)
THORAX ? Mink

STEP 1
Wrap the lead, cover with thread wraps, then tie in the rib.

STEP 2
Prepare and tie in the flexibody.

STEP 3
Apply a liberal amount of dubbing to the thread.

Then wrap to form a tapered body.

STEP 4
Split the thread and insert the mink dubbing. Try to have a few guard hairs in the dubbing mix.

STEP 5
Spin the bobbin to form the dubbing rope then wrap to form the thorax.

STEP 6
Pull the shellback over and tie off at the head.

STEP 7
Follow with the rib and tie off.

STEP 8
Finally form a neat head, whipfinish and varnish for the completed fly.
