Suspender Buzzer

In the CDC Suspender Buzzer sbs I mentioned the Ethafoam emerger I used, this is it. I started with the classic polystyrene ball in the mesh, then moved on to the Ethafoam folded over the thorax, before settling on this style. I think style of tying offers a few advantages over the others? It?s quick and very easy to tie, it?s durable and because it?s tied with Ethafoam it won?t sink. Polystyrene absorbs water and will eventually sink.
The pattern is the same as the CDC Suspender and only differs in the choice of material used for flotation.

Instructions assume right-handed tyers.

HOOK ? Kamasan B170
THREAD ? Black 6/0
FLOATY BIT ? 3mm Strip of Ethafoam
RIB ? Pearl Mylar
BODY ? Beaver Dubbing
THORAX ? 50/50 Blend of red and peacock Ice Dubbing


STEP 1
Attach the thread and wrap a base of thread at the eye.



STEP 2
Cut a strip of Ethafoam approximately 3mm wide and tie in projecting over the eye.



Then fold it back to form a loop and tie down tight to the eye.



STEP 3
Take the thread down and round the bend, catching in the rib as you go.



STEP 4
Apply a pinch of dubbing to the thread and wrap to form the body.



STEP 5
Follow with the rib.



STEP 6
Apply a pinch of dubbing to the thread and wrap to form the thorax. This should be more pronounced than the body.



STEP 7
Whipfinish and varnish the thread for the completed fly.



To imitate the various buzzers simply change the body colour to suit.

That's much easier than the poly-bead wrapped in old tights method. I'll tie a few of them.
