Hello all looking for some advice on a pattern or two to cover spent spinners. Was thinking about trying this for larger size spinners down to maybe size 16 http://www.danica.com/flytier/hweilenmann/cdcelk_spent.htm . Then thinking about something Like this for 16 & below Snowshoe Trico Spinner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpMI6iZNvtE.I have read that a Rusty coloured bodie is best but don't really have a clue never tied or used spent spinners before but read i should have them .Hopefully someone can point me to an effective but easily tied pattern or two. Cheers

Here is an adaptable SBS of a pattern that can be used to cover lots of situations. Just vary the size and colours.

That along with what you have already, plus perhaps a few poly wing spinner patterns should about cover you.   A dry  with the hackle clipped below is also useful. There is a load of free information on line. Just do a few searches.

Here are just two:

Save your cash and buy some materials with it.  :D

I would take that CDC + elk spinner and replace the deer hair (horrible stuff for small flies) with McFlylon in various light shades. Probably white + dun and a mix of both. You could also use the dreaded snowshoe hare foot.

Lots of good info i take you don't like Snowshoe  :)I only have some high-vis Mcflylon i have some white & Grey dun FunkyFibre & Funkysilky it's a little more crinkly than Mcflylon but should do.Also have plenty of Snowshoe white & Light Dun & Coq De Leon for tails.I noticed these on Spiders Plus just might do the trick

Overrated IMO. Hard to see and supposed to be waterproof since it's from the hare's foot, but I can't say I have noticed that. I think it may be one of these "deer hair is hollow so it floats"  type of myths that people  just accept as gospel.  I don't  see any advantage of snowshoe over a good  crinkly polyyarn that said I don't tie a lot of very tiny flies say  < 20

Gink is waterproof.
