We haven't had a discussion on this for a wee while :)

I've just packed my bag for next week and weighed everything. I put it all in a spread sheet and screen grabbed the print out for your viewing. The medium and small pods are lightweight stuff sacks, one for the sleeping bag and the other with extra clothes.

Just over 18 Kgs for the lot including cameras and fishing gear (less rod). Last year it was the same but didn't include cameras, fleece and fishing gear. :) I could lose a bit more but looking at the weather the extras might be needed

I don't use a waistcoat, that's what the bum bag is for, and the reel is on the rod which I will carry broken down and made up as I always do.

I fear you may have too much time on your hands Sandy

Don't worry Sandy - I've got one of those lists too!  (albeit from a few years ago)

As a gentleman of leisure (at least I was yesterday for a change) it had to be done. I've been wanting to do it for years and now that I have I wont be doing it again

Thats a lot of electrical/camera kit, but if thats what you enjoy I'll thank you and look forward to the movie :)
Hope the boots are sorted this year, last year was a bit of a horror story?
Its good to be able to do this sort of thing, some of the lighter kit you've gathered together makes it easier to take the extra camera kit.

Considering I used to carry 25 Kgs when I first started and that didn't include waistcoat, camera, fishing gear and fleeces, only what was in the rucksack  There are a few items in there that wouldn't normally go though, that is a complete list more for early/late season colder trips and even at that some things might not go, it isn't Friday yet :8)

Don't you listen to the skeptics Sandy. As with most things  in life preparation is everything. You are FAR from obsessive about this weight  thing - one guy I know spends vast amounts on things like titanium pots, stoves and all kinds of things just to save an ounce here and there. It all counts though and every pun'  of gear saved means another  pun' of food can be carried and the longer you can stay out!

Personally I don't try to go too lightweight for walking into camp beside a loch, prepared to carry items which will make trip more enjoyable. The weather here over the last few days would prove challenging for those expecting  summer !!!! type conditions, between the showers its been nice but maybe that is me sitting indoors wishing I could be outdoors, overall there has been a lot of April type showers and wind including snow to about 500m. This morning I can see fresh on the Munro visible out the kitchen window, but looks like the forecast is improving.
Wish I was coming along !

Lightweight makes the walk enjoyable. Last year was 13 Miles, Fisherfield was 8 Miles and this year is 2½ Miles :) All of them have steep 1000 to 1500 feet climbs more or less straight up so the lighter the sack the better it feels.

Obviously Sandy, and it depends on objectives and fitness, a few months ago I did about 20 miles over two days including three Munros requiring ice axe and crampons, for this trip I suffered a little to go as lite as possible, not being as fit as I would like this trip proved more of a challenge than usual for me. If I was walking 10 miles into the hills for a weeks trout fishing, I would want more comfortable gear, better sleep mat, warmer sleeping bag, spare tent shoes, all things I didn't take on previous trip but just put up with being more uncomfortable. Carrying in a heavier rucksack won't necessarily make it any less enjoyable but it definitely will take longer.
