24 Hours At The Storm Loch

thumbIt  was the weekend of the  June 2008 Wild Fishing Forum meet over by Loch Eigheach on Rannoch Moor, and  facing a solo drive round trip from Aberdeenshire that would have cost me the better part of £50 for petrol I reluctantly decided to call off and fish somewhere a little closer to home and therefore a lot less expensive.

Botany And Boulder Creek

thumbI have said it before and I’ll say it again;  if you are an adventurous, exploring kind of  fly fisher, then a little botanical knowledge may give you the edge. It can often provide a reasonable indication of the fertility of a river or loch and  the quality of the fish one might expect to find living there.

Loch St John’s

sandisonWe drifted silently across Loch St John’s in a gently breeze. A great skua winged by, pirating the shores in search of prey. Curlew called hauntingly. A golden finger of sunlight suddenly sparkled through the clouds sending myriad colours, reds and blues, shimmering over the smooth waters.
