I’m getting a bit worried about how our club is being run. In fact, I’m not sure that the committee have the best interests of the members at heart and feel that this might be the time for a putsch. Here are some of the things that I’ve noticed.

What many people completely fail to understand is that the number or size of fish is basically irrelevant to a true angler. Indeed, a true angler will quite happily spend hours trying to catch minnows, or even just watching a fish! What matters is the fascination and quality of the experience. Even very many "anglers" nowadays also simply fail to understand this.

Should I stay or should I go? A serious question indeed! So much so that an adolescent trout may, on some rivers, go through a bit of an identity crisis. “Am I a brown trout or a sea trout?”, she will ask. “Will I emigrate or stay at home?” The answer will generally depend, as it so often does, on the home environment and parental expectation.

Around five or six years ago, I paid a visit to my local trout stream. As nothing was rising, I put on my usual set-up, leaded harelug on the point and a spider pattern on the dropper. I was fishing my way downstream covering the water methodically with little success. Then I heard a fish rise behind me, just upstream. So I cast the same set-up
Where and how did you get started in angling?

Most of us have been angling for a long time, but what got us interested in the first place? For me it all started when I was a kid about four years old. I lived then in a small village called Craik in the Scottish borders. The nearest town with a shop was about twelve miles away so it was rather remote. Life was great as it was so quiet and peaceful.
