Legend has it that the Kelpie (or Water-Horse) that inhabited the waters of Loch Eigheach was the fiercest in Scotland after the Kelpie of Loch Treig. Happily, the trout of Eigheach’s peaty depths are equally ferocious but far, far less likely to kill you.

Fly fishing for pike has been growing in popularity over the last few years, helped by various magazine articles and even the odd piece on satellite television. Some of the most notable waters are in the Trossachs area with Achray, Katrine and Venachar all producing monster pike to the fly.
